Automation

Before product management I worked in audit and fund operations, where the same calculations were redone by hand every day or every quarter. Both stories follow one approach: write the repeatable logic down as rules, let a workflow run them, and send people only the exceptions that need judgment.

In audit, the rules covered how investment transactions reconcile back to the financial statements. The workflow was standardised across 50 client engagements and more than 150 auditors, and it helped cut audit cycle time by 40 to 50%.

In private equity fund operations, the same approach handled daily capital calls and distributions, and the quarterly NAV reports. Fund processing went from about two business days to under four hours, processing effort fell by 75%, and NAV reporting errors dropped from 30% to 10%.
